Another report points to a limited Samsung Galaxy S21 FE launch

TL;DR

  • Another news outlet has reported that the Galaxy S21 FE could be restricted to the US and Europe.
  • It’s also believed that the phone will use Snapdragon and Exynos power.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is one of the most eagerly anticipated smartphones of the year, and it’s expected that the device will deliver an affordable flagship experience. But there have been loads of rumors and reports regarding production issues due to the global chip shortage.

Now, Korea’s Yonhap News has reported that Samsung is thinking about launching the Galaxy S21 FE in the US and Europe only, citing unnamed “industry sources.” The phone is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset (with FCC filings hinting at this too), but Yonhap‘s sources allege Samsung could also use an Exynos chipset (presumably the Exynos 2100) in some models.

This isn’t actually the first time we’ve heard about the S21 FE possibly being restricted to the US and Europe. Korean outlet FNN News reported on a potential Europe and US-only launch several weeks ago.

It wouldn’t be the first time we heard that the phone could be available in Snapdragon and Exynos variants, either. Maeil Business claimed earlier this month that Samsung was considering the use of both chipsets due to the global chip shortage.

If a limited Galaxy S21 FE release is confirmed, Samsung would be joining Google in having a curtailed launch for a smartphone. The Mountain View company revealed earlier this year that the upcoming Pixel 5a would only be launching in Japan and the US.

Would you import the Galaxy S21 FE if it doesn’t launch in your country? Let us know via the poll above.
