Fandango combines FandangoNOW service with Vudu

TL;DR

  • Digital entertainment network Fandango acquired VOD company Vudu last year.
  • Fandango is folding its FandangoNOW library into Vudu to host a single VOD and streaming service.
  • The new Vudu, home to over 20,000, will be the official movie and TV store on Roku.

Fandango is uniting its streaming and VOD libraries into one entertainment platform, folding FandangoNOW into Vudu to create a single destination for all its VOD and streaming content.

NBCUniversal-owned Fandango bought Vudu in April last year. Walmart previously owned the FandangoNOW competitor. While Fandango never disclosed the details of the acquisition, the company always planned to merge the two services as soon as possible following the purchase.

The move is effective today, with Vudu hosting all existing libraries going forward. FandangoNOW users can transfer their movie and TV collections to Vudu starting today.

Vudu will now also replace FandangoNOW as the official movie and TV store on Roku.

“Consumer excitement for premium video on-demand has grown significantly as users turn to streaming to access the latest movies and TV show releases,” said Tedd Cittadine, vice president of content partnerships at Roku in a statement shared with Android Authority. “We’re thrilled to continue our long-standing partnership with Fandango as we build a future where all TV will be streamed by creating a seamless experience for users to discover and enjoy premium video on-demand releases.”

The new Vudu will host over 20,000 titles to rent or buy, including thousands of titles streaming for free. Many titles are available in 4K Ultra HD and premium formats such as Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. The service is available on devices including Samsung, LG and Vizio Smart TVs, the Roku platform, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Xfinity X1 and Xfinity Flex, PlayStation, Xbox, and Tivo.
