OnePlus is using Lunchables-style packaging to re-hype the OnePlus 9 Pro

TL;DR

  • A OnePlus 9 Limited Edition is coming in Lunchables-style packaging.
  • Only 15 units are being given away through the OnePlus US Instagram account.
  • The phone and its bundled accessories are the same.

In an unusual back-to-school marketing stunt, the OnePlus 9 Pro is getting a Limited Edition with “Snackable” packaging, mimicking the Oscar Mayer Lunchables many students take with them in their backpacks.

OnePlus is giving away just 15 Limited Edition phones through its US Instagram account, starting on August 23, SlashGear reports. While OnePlus doesn’t appear to have made a deal with Oscar Mayer, the packaging makes a lot of nods to the Lunchables design, for instance highlighting 5G support and a 120Hz display as nutrition facts.

Nothing about the phone or its accessories has changed. The only other things in the box are OnePlus’ Warp Cable and Warp Charge 65T adapter, the latter allowing 65W charging.

The 9 Pro first shipped in March 2021. OnePlus’ top-of-the-line product uses a 6.7-inch AMOLED display, and boasts other “premium” features such as a 48-megapixel main camera and camera software developed in collaboration with Hasselblad.

The back-to-school season is an important target for a lot of electronics makers. Many students legitimately need new phones, computers, tablets, and other gear, offering the perfect opportunity to hook a new generation into a company’s ecosystem.
