SAVE $30: You can pre-order the all-new Apple iPad from Walmart for only $299 as of Sept. 16 — that’s just under 10% off its $329 MSRP.

PSA: It pays to pre-order the latest iPad from Walmart.

As of Sept. 16, the big box store will charge you only $299 to reserve a 64GB base configuration of the new entry-level tablet that was announced at this week’s iPhone 13 event, which is set for release on Sept. 24. (Walmart appears to be matching Apple’s discounted pricing for schools, but for everyone.) Reserve the device anywhere else — see: Amazon, Best Buy, and even the Apple Store — and you’ll pay its full retail price of $329.

This new guy looks a lot like last year’s 8th-generation iPad, which also had a 10.2-inch Retina display, but one-ups it with support for Apple’s True Tone technology for a natural-looking picture in all lighting environments. An A13 Bionic chip (last seen in the iPhone 11 lineup) has entered the chat, too, giving the latest iteration of the iPad a 20% performance boost over its predecessor.

Meanwhile, selfie aficionados and video chat virtuosos will further appreciate its upgraded 12MP ultra-wide front camera with Center Stage, a feature that automatically keeps your face in frame; it used to be an iPad Pro exclusive.

And because we know you’re wondering: No, Apple didn’t get rid of its headphone jack. Unlike the new and improved iPad mini (another star of this week’s Apple event), which now requires wireless earbuds or a 3.5mm jack dongle, the iPad’s built-in port for wired audio output has lived to see another generation. All is right with the world.
