Samsung’s new tablet reportedly has MacBook Pro-like notch

October 26, 2021

When Apple launched the iPhone X, the first iPhone with the notch, competitors made fun of it, and then proceeded to copy it on all of their phone models.

Now, we may be entering a new era, in which non-Apple companies start launching laptops and tablets with a MacBook Pro-like notch.

Leaker of tech things Steve Hemmerstoffer aka @onleaks, together with 91mobiles, has published purported renders of the upcoming Samsung Tab S8 Ultra tablet, and sure enough, its display has a small notch on top.

I regret notching! (OK, we’ll stop with the notch jokes).

While the notch is probably just as tolerable as it is on the MacBook Pro when the tablet is in horizontal mode, it looks slightly odd when you flip it vertically, with the notch being on the side. Given that the device hasn’t been officially confirmed and may actually have a different design, there’s no point in analysing it too closely; we’ll know more when it launches.

Based on Hemmerstoffer’s data, aside from the notched display, the new Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra looks like an absolute beast of a tablet. It has a 14.6-inch display, dual rear cameras, quad speakers, a Type-C port, and support for Samsung’s S Pen, which can be attached to the device via a magnetic strip.

The same report claims that Samsung plans to launch two more tablets soon, the 11-inch Galaxy Tab S8, and the 12.4-inch Galaxy Tab S8+. According to the report, all of the devices described above might launch in November or December, though the global chip shortage might postpone that until 2022.
