Showtime has some pretty good deals right now

What: Dexter: New Blood

Where to watch:

  • Showtime app — 30-day free trial, then $4.99 for the first four months

  • Showtime on Hulu — $3.99/month for the first four months

  • Showtime on SlingTV — Get one month free when you sign up for SlingTV ($10 for the first month)

  • Paramount+: Bundle Paramount+ and Showtime for $11.99/month

“Tonight’s the night,” said giddy Dexter fans everywhere on Nov. 7, 2021.

2,968 days after the notorious series finale left diehards disappointed, America’s favorite serial killer is back on his bullshit under alias Jim Lindsay.

The reboot slash sequel, which takes place 10 years after the original show ended, already seeps with nostalgia in the first episode. “Dexter: New Blood is a ghost of its former self,” writes Mashable’s Alison Foreman.

New Dexter might feel like old Dexter because New Blood is headed by Clyde Phillips, showrunner for the first four seasons of Dexter. We can’t tell for sure how far New Blood will stray from the original show’s predictable comfort zone, but hopefully it’ll provide fans with some closure instead of opening another wound.

Where can I watch Dexter: New Blood?

Dexter’s home network has always been Showtime, and that’s what you’ll need access to if you want to catch the new episodes as they air. You can either sign up for a subscription through Showtime itself or take advantage of add-ons or bundles from streaming services you may already have. (The original eight seasons are available through Amazon Prime Video.)

The 10-episode mini series will drop a new episode once a week (Sundays at 9 p.m. EST), supposedly ending on Jan. 9. That means you technically only need access to Showtime for two months to watch the whole show. Depending on the service you go with, a one-month free trial can cover half of that cost.

Showtime: Free 30-day trial, then $4.99/month for four months

If you have an email address that’s not associated with a Showtime account yet, you can watch a month of New Blood directly through Showtime for free, then get up to four more months for $4.99 per month. (If you really want to, canceling after the miniseries ends could save you a few bucks.) Showtime is $10.99/month after that.

Though the premiere was officially set for 9 p.m, Showtime gave Cold Snap to fans on Sunday at midnight as a treat. It’s unclear whether this will be the case going forward.

Hulu: Add Showtime to Hulu for $3.99/month for four months

If you already subscribe to Hulu, a deal running through Nov. 23 offers the addition of Showtime to your base plan for $3.99/month for the first four months. (It’s $10.99/month after that if you don’t cancel.)

SlingTV: Get a month of Showtime for free when you sign up for Sling ($10 for the first month)

SlingTV is one of our favorite streaming services for live TV because it’s such a bang for your buck. Its models (Sling Orange, Sling Blue, or both) offer an assortment of between 32 to 50 live channels for as low as $35 per month. Its usual first-month-for-$10 deal currently offers a free month of Showtime. (The add-on costs $10/month after that.) If you’re already considering ditching cable for a live TV service, this may be the smartest way to catch New Blood.

Paramount+: Bundle Paramount+ and Showtime for $11.99/month

Perhaps the presence of new releases like Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin or basically every Nickelodeon show ever had you contemplating adding Paramount+ to your arsenal. Bundling that with Showtime gets you both services for as low as $11.99/month (versus $4.99/month and $10.99/month if you signed up for both separately). New Paramount+ subscribers also get a one week free trial, but current subscribers can still upgrade to the bundle.

Is Deb in Dexter: New Blood?

Flashing back to season 8, you’ll remember the fate that Dexter’s beloved sister ultimately suffered: joining Miami’s Underwater Graveyard after being shot in the abdomen by the season’s serial killer (and subsequently falling into a heartbreaking coma). The show would have to pull off some impossible-to-believe death faking to bring her back in real life.

But New Blood trailers appeased Debra Morgan stans by revealing Jennifer Carpenter as the new Harry: an angel on Dexter’s shoulder who’s fighting the previously-repressed Dark Passenger for Dexter’s attention. Trailers also show Harrison, who is all grown up.
