Are you at home with family and friends after your Thanksgiving meal and your Black Friday shopping? Good, because you can sit back and relax in front of your TV or mobile device. Here are our picks for 6 of the best new movies and shows to stream this weekend.

Hawkeye episodes 1 and 2 (Disney Plus)

Hawkeye

The latest live-action TV series set in the superhero Marvel Cinematic Universe added its first two of six episodes on Wednesday on Disney Plus. If you haven’t checked it out already, this weekend is a great time to start.

Jeremy Renner reprises his Avengers movie role as Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye. The best archer in the world just wants to spend time with the family during the holiday season, but he quickly gets caught up fighting street-level crime in New York City. He also has to deal with another Hawkeye, a female archer named Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld).

The Beatles: Get Back (Disney Plus)

Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) directed this new three-part documentary on the making of The Beatles’ final album, Let It Be. He took tens of hours of previously unseen video footage from the making of the album to create this documentary series, which may truly show why John, Paul, George, and Ringo felt they had to break up the band in 1969.

The first part came out Thursday, and you can catch parts two and three on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

8-Bit Christmas (HBO Max)

This looks to be one of the best new movies to stream this weekend if you’re feeling festive. This HBO Max exclusive combines elements of The Princess Bride and Jingle All The Way. In the present day, a father, played by Neil Patrick Harris, tells his daughter of how, as a child in the 1980s, all he wanted to get for Christmas was a Nintendo Entertainment System. The movie then goes back to that time where he tried to find an NES game console, at almost any cost.

South Park: Post Covid (Paramount Plus)

south park post covid

Paramount Plus has dropped the first of a series of South Park one-hour specials that will be exclusive to the service. The first special takes place in the future, in a world that has (almost) gotten past the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the South Park group of kids have undergone some . . . changes.

A Boy Called Christmas (Netflix)

Netflix continues to flood its service with Christmas-themed content. This weekend, you can check out this family-friendly holiday movie about a boy called Nikolas. He’s in search of his father, who in turn is searching for the hidden town of the elves. What will both of these people encounter, and how will it affect both their lives and the entire world?

Twas The Fight Before Christmas (Apple TV Plus)

twas the fight before christmas

Apple TV Plus has just dropped a new documentary that you might think is actually one of those “mockumentary” fictional films at first. It’s not. It tells the true story of Jeremy Morris, a man who’s so obsessed with decorating and celebrating Christmas, that he and his family moved to Hayden, Idaho to buy a house big enough for his Christmas lights and show. His neighbors didn’t care for Morris’s efforts, fearing it would lead to massive amounts of people and chaos in their neighborhood.

The documentary covers the fight between Morris and his neighbors over his Christmas lights show over the years.

That’s just a sample of the many new shows and movies that are available to stream this weekend. Of course, there are lots of other series and films you can stream while you recover from your Thanksgiving dinner and shopping trips. We will be back with more recommendations next week, but in the meantime be sure to share your picks for the weekend in the comments!
