Tom Holland: Spider-Man: No Way Home Had Back-Up Plans To Focus On Kraven The Hunter

Director Jon Watts was ready to pivot the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home to instead be a film entirely centered on the villain Kraven, according to Collider.

This is apparently unrelated to the other, long-rumored film centering on the villain starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, due for a 2023 release date. As actor Tom Holland explains in the interview, due to the logistics, licensing rights, and other complicated decision-making that goes into a multiverse-colliding movie like Spider-Man: No Way Home, Watts was ready to go in another direction if things didn’t work out.

“For a long time, there was going to be a Kraven movie that was going to be the third movie because things weren’t working out and all sorts of different stuff,” said Holland. “Jon pitched me this Kraven movie, which actually was really cool. I don’t want to talk about it in case that movie ends up happening down the line, but it was fun.”

All of this means, of course, the door is still somehow open for Jimmy Kimmel playing Kraven. The film promises to pit Spidey against a ton of villains, including villains featured in Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, and The Amazing Spider-Man. Jamie Foxx’s Electro, featured in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will appear in the film as well. In addition to Spidey, Holland’s Uncharted film is on the way. Meanwhile, Disney recently delayed the entire 2022 slate of MCU films.

Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters on December 17.
