Lord Of The Rings Fan Wants To Make A Hobbiton In Wisconsin Where You Can Sleep, Eat, And Tend Gardens

A Lord of the Rings-themed bed & breakfast/park modeled after Hobbiton could be coming to Wisconsin, and while the concept sounds intriguing, it’s still very early days.

A new experience called Hobbiton Stay Wisconsin has been announced, with organizer Rebecca Alm–a self-described “fan with a plan”–outlining a vision for what the place could be.

Hobbiton Stay Wisconsin is aiming to offer guests the opportunity to visit Hobbiton without traveling to New Zealand. It’s described as a “fully functional Hobbiton” featuring underground dwellings, gardens, a lake, paths through the woods, and a recreation of the Green Dragon Inn to grab a pint.

Hobbiton Stay Wisconsin aims to offer guests the ability to stay for a weekend in their own hobbit hole. The venue might also host weddings and events and let visitors tend gardens and orchards just like a hobbit. The site could have resident animals and a pond stocked with fish.

Bill the pony would be Hobbiton Stay Wisconsin’s concierge, “helping you get to and from your home,” if all goes to plan. Alm said the hope is to work with a local sanctuary and farm to find Bill.

As mentioned, it’s still early days for Hobbiton Stay Wisconsin. Alm is currently looking for land for the park and funding. There is also the matter of whether or not this would even be allowed due to rights issues.

Hobbiton in Matamata, New Zealand is an officially licensed park where the films were actually shot. The farm there has a deal with the rights-holders, but whether or not Hobbiton Stay Wisconsin could or would be approved for a version of Hobbiton in America remains to be seen.

In other news, the first trailer for Amazon’s highly anticipated Lord of the Rings TV show, The Rings of Power, premieres during Super Bowl 56 this weekend.
