TL;DR

  • Samsung is reportedly adding a thermometer function to the Galaxy Watch 5.
  • The smartwatch is said to launch in August.

The Galaxy Watch 5 is expected to be Samsung’s next smartwatch. Rumors and leaks have been scarce about the wearable, but a report may have just outed its launch timeline and a brand new feature.

According to ETNews, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 will introduce a thermometer function to check your body temperature.

The news outlet reports that the feature is aimed at detecting early signs of COVID-19. It could also be used to track other infections as well as ovulation cycles.

Samsung has reportedly developed a technology that can accurately measure body temperature without being affected by external factors such as direct sunlight and exercising.

The publication also claims that the smartwatch will release in August this year. Samsung unpacked the Galaxy Watch 4 around the same time last year, so the timeline is not all that surprising.

The report further claims that Samsung also wants to add the thermometer feature to its next set of Galaxy Buds. The company is apparently using tech that can detect infrared wavelengths emitted from the eardrum to take temperature readings.
