Ms. Marvel Trailer Arrives, And It’s Everything We Need In A Disney Plus Series

The first trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series Ms. Marvel has arrived, and it’s incredibly fun. Coming to the streaming service on June 8, the show follows a young girl named Kamala Khan as she gets superpowers.

A Muslim-American teenager living in Jersey City, Khan is a fangirl of superheroes–primarily Captain Marvel. The trailer is exceptionally quirky and reminiscent of the comic series from G. Willow Wilson and Adrian Alphona–and a little bit of fun Mitchell vs. The Machines-type animation layover. Check out the trailer for yourself below.

“An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero mega fan with an oversized imagination–particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel,” reads the synopsis in a press release. “Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home–that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with super powers, right?”

Ms. Marvel stars Iman Vellani in the main role as Kahn. The show also features Aramis Knight (Into the Badlands), Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah (Emmerdale Farm), Zenobia Shroff (The Big Sick), Mohan Kapur (Crime Next Door), Matt Lintz (The Walking Dead), and Yasmeen Fletcher. This is Vellani’s first role; however, she will also be in the MCU movie The Marvels in 2023, alongside Captain Marvel herself, Carol Danvers, played by Brie Larson.

The upcoming Ms. Marvel episodes will be directed by Adil El Arbi (Batgirl) and Bilall Fallah (Batgirl), Meera Menon (For All Mankind), and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Saving Face). Bisha K. Ali (Loki) will serve as head writer.

While MCU fans will have to wait until June to hear Ms. Marvel yell, “Embiggen,” the next Marvel series is right around the corner. Moon Knight hits Disney+ on March 30, and the show will be a bit of a trip. The first trailer was revealed in January, and the show follows the titular character–played by Oscar Isaac–as a superhero with Egyptian ties.
