Samuel L. Jackson Wants To Return To Star Wars

Actor Samuel L. Jackson is once again letting the world know he is eager to reprise his role of Mace Windu, who definitely died in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. During a recent live taping of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Jackson argued for the character’s return.

In the 2005 film, Windu battled Emperor Palpatine for a brief moment of flashy swordplay in Revenge of the Sith before getting his right hand chopped off and then being electro-blasted out of a window. A fall from such great heights would kill any normal human, but as Jackson recently said, the character is still alive “somewhere.”

“That’s the same way I think about [my character Ray] from Jurassic Park,” said Jackson. “He’s somewhere riding around on a velociraptor with one arm… There’s a huge history of people with one hand returning in Star Wars.”

It should be noted that Jackson has made this argument in the past. During a 2019 appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Jackson laid this same logic out before. The only difference is, now, there is a much wider Star Wars franchise available for the character to appear in–even if it’s elsewhere in the timeline. On the podcast, Jackson joked that he would gladly learn how to wield a lightsaber with his other hand for a Mandalorian return.

The next franchise spin-off is the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which is set to premiere on Disney+ in May. Mark Hamill–never one to shy away from criticizing Star Wars missteps–recently gave his approval on newcomer child actor Grant Feely, who will appear in the series as a young Luke Skywalker.
