Samsung Galaxy Note 9 update for March 2022 is here

April 15, 2022

TL;DR

  • A new Samsung Galaxy Note 9 update is here.
  • The update includes the March 2022 Android security patch.
  • Samsung moved the phone to a quarterly schedule but has still updated it almost monthly.

Back in September 2021, Samsung moved its flagship Note phone from 2018 to a quarterly update schedule. Theoretically, it should have been updated just twice since then.

However, over the past six months, the phone has been updated three times in December, January, and February. Now, we have a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 update for April 2022 carrying the March 2022 Android security patch with it (per Droid-Life). That’s four updates in six months.

Considering Samsung doesn’t need to be keeping this nearly four-year-old device updated this frequently, it’s nice to see it continuing to do so anyway.

So far, we’ve only seen the update on Verizon-branded versions of the phone. However, it’s likely it will make it to other variants over the coming days and weeks. The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 update carries build number QP1A.190711.020.N960USQS9FVC5.

Unfortunately, it looks like the update doesn’t have much to it besides the March 2022 patch. Despite Samsung’s generosity with updates for its aging flagship, it still doesn’t have the resources to bring new Android upgrades or new features.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 was voted unanimously by both Android Authority and our readers as the best smartphone of 2018.
