YouTuber attempts to drive car backwards using a screen, struggles

“Alright, here we go. Bit of speed.”

Turns out that isn’t a great sentence to utter while driving backwards and steering using a small screen as guidance, as YouTuber Tom Scott finds out in the video above.

The clip sees Scott setting out to discover how difficult the task of driving backwards might be, inspired by the vehicles in the old kids’ show Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons and with the help of engineering company Sparkmate, who crafted him a custom-made car for the task.

The end result? One small crash (everyone was fine), plenty of awkward swerving, and the clear realisation that the characters in Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons were making things very, needlessly difficult for themselves.
