Xiaomi 12T leaks, could fix where Xiaomi 12 went wrong

TL;DR

  • A new leak has detailed the supposed Xiaomi 12T.
  • The new phone will apparently offer an improved flagship SoC and faster charging.

Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 12 series globally earlier this year, with the Xiaomi 12 packing both a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset and 67W charging. However, it looks like the company is working on a device that could up the ante in these areas.

Frequent tipster Mukul Sharma has tweeted that Xiaomi is working on a device tentatively called the Xiaomi 12T. And it’s said to pack a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset and 120W charging, with both being significant upgrades over the Xiaomi 12. Check out a screenshot of the tweet below.

The Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 in particular is quite possibly the most notable mid-year refresh we’ve seen from Qualcomm yet. The Plus SoC offers a 10% boost to CPU and GPU clock speeds, a claimed 30% efficiency boost, and a 20% performance-per-watt gain.

Fast charging to get even faster?

Xiaomi’s supposed upgrade to 120W charging is pretty notable too, although 67W speeds deliver charging times of under an hour already. We also ran a poll earlier this year that found most surveyed readers considered 65W charging to be their sweet spot (28.78%), with 45W and 25W speeds gaining plenty of fans too. By comparison, respondents who wanted 80W+ charging only accounted for ~17% of the vote.

Other notable specs shared by Sharma include 8GB of RAM (with 12GB possible), 128GB or 256GB of storage, a 120Hz AMOLED screen, NFC, OIS for the unspecified main camera, and MIUI 13 atop Android 12.

There’s no word on other specs just yet, but it certainly sounds like the Xiaomi 12T will deliver a decent power upgrade and a huge efficiency upgrade over the Xiaomi 12. Here’s hoping we see a similar compact form factor as the current model.
