Wear OS 3, FastPair, and more on offer

TL;DR

  • Montblanc has posted a series of videos showing us what the Summit 3 is all about.
  • We also get a look at Wear OS 3 on a non-Samsung smartwatch for the first time.
  • The device is the first to get the new FastPair feature.

The Montblanc Summit 3 is the only other smartwatch to feature Wear OS 3 apart from the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4. It’s been almost a year since Google revamped its software platform for watches. We’re finally getting another wearable that features the revamped Wear OS. Unfortunately, it’s not one many people can afford.

The Montblanc Summit 3 is a pricey affair at $1,290. It sure does look slick, though. The company has now listed the smartwatch and its price on its website and has also put out a bunch of how-to videos on its YouTube channel, giving us a closer look at what Wear OS 3 looks like on a non-Samsung watch. We also get a confirmation of the Summit 3’s features, which we didn’t previously know when the device was first announced.

The Montblanc Summit 3 gets a 1.28-inch circular AMOLED display with a 416 x 416 resolution, the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 Plus chip, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, Wi-Fi, and NFC for Google Pay. There are three pushers on the side, including one on the rotating crown, one programmable one, and one for launching apps.

The Summit 3 will be compatible with both iOS and Android. This means that even the Pixel Watch could feature iOS compatibility since it’ll also run on the new Wear OS platform.

In the box, you get a rubber sports strap, an additional calf leather strap, a charging cradle, a USB cable, and some guides.

Wear OS 3 on the Montblanc Summit 3

Montblanc has put out some videos on how the Summit 3 functions, and we can straight away spot a few differences compared to Samsung’s One UI Watch.

For starters, users have to swipe up on the screen to view the notifications instead of sliding right on the Galaxy Watch.

The Summit 3 is also the first Wear OS smartwatch to feature FastPair. A video posted by the company shows how the feature will allow users to immediately pair the smartwatch with their Android phones by simply placing them next to each other.

Other how-to videos for the Summit 3 show the smartwatch’s various fitness and health features. It gets a heart rate sensor, blood oxygen monitoring, stress measurement, and sleep monitoring. It also houses a microphone for calls, a barometer, an accelerometer, a gyroscope, and an ambient light sensor.
