TL;DR: Through August 29, you can get the American Red Cross FRX3+ Multi-Powered Weather Alert Radio(opens in a new tab) for just $35.99 with code RADIO9 — that’s a 64% discount.

One of the first items in FEMA’s recommended emergency kit is a battery-operated or hand crank radio. So if the power goes out, you can stay tuned to local and national emergency news(opens in a new tab). The American Red Cross FRX3+ Multi-Powered Weather Alert Radio has three ways to recharge, two of which don’t depend on the power grid, but it does more than play the news. It’s on sale for $35.99 with code RADIO9.

An emergency kit of its own

The FRX3+ could prove valuable in an emergency. If the power goes out and you need evacuation orders, this rechargeable radio supports seven radio bands, including AM/FM/NOAA digital radio bands. If you need to recharge the radio itself, you have a few options. If the power is still active, it has a rechargeable battery and comes with a mini USB cable. If the power is out, but the sun is up, just put your radio in a bright spot with the solar panel facing the sky. If both options are unavailable, then you can use the hand crank.

Powering the FRX3+ doesn’t just mean you have a radio. It also has a USB port with a potential output of 5W for powering smartphones or other small devices(opens in a new tab). If you need to signal someone, the FRX3+ has its own LED flashlight and a strong red flashing beacon.

During an extended blackout, some of this radio’s quality of life features may be a welcome return to normalcy. For example, the display has a clock and a built-in alarm function. The power may be out, but that doesn’t mean you have to mess up your sleep schedule!

And one of the best parts about emergency preparedness devices like this one is that they aren’t only useful in an emergency. You could also use it to stay connected while camping, allowing you to keep your phone charged and wake up on time while enjoying nature.

Be prepared in an emergency

Staying connected could make all the difference during a disaster. For a limited time, get the American Red Cross FRX3+ Multi-Powered Weather Alert Radio(opens in a new tab) on sale for $35.99 (Reg. $99) with code RADIO9.

Prices subject to change.
