Ubisoft Reveals New Details On Its Assassin’s Creed Netflix Series

Ubisoft and Netflix are working together on an Assassin’s Creed live-action TV series, as was confirmed back in 2020. More details on the project emerged at Ubisoft Forward today, with Marc-Alexis Cote of Ubisoft Quebec confirming the show is “still early in development.”

Ubisoft Film and Television is producing the show alongside Netflix and showrunner Jeb Stuart. Stuart wrote the iconic action movies Die Hard and The Fugitive, and more recently wrote Netflix TV show Vikings: Valhalla.

“It’s gonna be an epic, genre-bending live-action adaptation of our video game series,” Cote said. Along with the show, Ubisoft is also releasing an Assassin’s Creed mobile game with Netflix Games.

“We’re excited to partner with Ubisoft and bring to life the rich, multilayered storytelling that Assassin’s Creed is beloved for,” Netflix original series VP Peter Friedlander said when the deal was originally announced in 2020. “From its breathtaking historical worlds and massive global appeal as one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time, we are committed to carefully crafting epic and thrilling entertainment based on this distinct IP and provide a deeper dive for fans and our members around the world to enjoy.”

Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed TV show is not the first time Hollywood has adapted the video game. A 2016 Assassin’s Creed movie starring Michael Fassbender and Oscar winners Marion Cotillard and Jeremy Irons was set during the Spanish inquisition, but it was a critical flop.

In addition to the Netflix TV series, Ubisoft is bringing new games to Netflix’s mobile games library.
