Pixel 7 gets a preorder date and bizarre ‘censored’ first impressions video

TL;DR

  • Google has released a first impressions video for the Pixel 7 Pro.
  • The ad reveals that the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will be up for preorder on October 6.
  • The video also briefly mentions the Pixel watch.

It’s time for Google to start up its advertising campaign for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. Today, the company used its first ad to announce that preorders will start on October 6.

In a bizarre 46-second first impressions YouTube video, Google hands the Pixel 7 Pro to a number of fans to get their reactions to the device. As you would expect from fans of the Pixel phones, their reactions were that of excitement. Although that may sound normal, what makes the video a bit of a head-scratcher is that for some reason the phone is pixelated until near the end when the device is finally revealed. Given that Google has already shown off renders of the handset back in May, it comes off as kind of a weird choice.

More importantly, however, it’s at the end of the video when we see small white text appear next to the bottom of the phone. The text reveals that preorders are starting on October 6.

If you’ve been keeping track, that October 6 date may sound familiar. The reason why is because that’s the same date that Google will be holding its upcoming hardware event focused on the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel Watch.

Google has a habit of starting preorders for its newly announced devices after events and it looks like the same will be true this time around.

In addition to Google’s new phones and smartwatch, we could see a variety of other devices get unveiled during Google’s October 6 hardware event. This could include the recently leaked Nest Wifi Pro, a cheaper HD Chromecast, and smart home devices.
