TikTok and Penguin Random House partner bring book tags to your FYP

One of the most robust and beloved communities to emerge on TikTok is #BookTok, a corner of the platform devoted to discussing literature and sharing book recommendations. To date, #BookTok has accumulated over 77 billion views — and TikTok has taken note of its popularity.

Following the launch of the TikTok Book Club back in July, TikTok is further investing in the #BookTok community through a partnership with Penguin Random House. Today (Sept. 20), the platform launched a new feature in the U.S. and UK that allows you to link any Penguin Random House title in your video through a tagging function.

A new wave of smut readers are on TikTok. And they’re not shy about it.

When you tag a book in a TikTok, it will be listed above the caption of your video, and upon clicking that link it will take you to a page with details about the book, including its genre, length, and a plot summary. You’ll also be able to see other TikToks that link that same book. Once people begin utilizing the feature, user-generated reviews of titles will be consolidated in one place for easy browsing.

The coolest part of the update is that it allows you to favorite books, so you can save titles you’re interested in. Previously, you would have to save the video the book was mentioned in and then rewatch the video to figure out why you saved that video. Now, TikTok is allowing you to curate your very own “to-read” list.

To use the book link feature, before posting a TikTok select “Add link.” Then click “Books” and search for the book you want to link and select “Add.” Now you’re officially ready to up your #BookTok game!
