Samsung’s flagship phone, the Galaxy S22 series, just received its September security update. While the update fixes over 20 vulnerabilities, it appears to have broken texting for some S22 owners.
Discovered by PiunikaWeb, it appears that several Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, and Galaxy S22 Ultra owners have submitted complaints on Samsung’s community forums and Reddit. The complaints claim that the users are no longer able to receive text messages following the most recent update.
The issue appears to only be affecting people in the US with S22 models that are carrier-locked. In addition, the bug is not contained to any one carrier; it is being experienced on multiple carriers including Verizon, T-Mobile, and more.
Switching text messaging apps also doesn’t seem to do much. It appears that both the default app and the Google Messages app are affected by this glitch.
However, users are reporting that messages do go through after rebooting the phone. Once the phone is rebooted, all of the missed text messages will appear at once. According to XDA Developers, some AT&T and T-Mobile are saying that enabling Chat settings or toggling the SIM card on and off can also help.
At the moment, there is no word from Samsung about the bug. As a result, we don’t know how soon we can expect a fix to come. Until then, users will just have to rely on workarounds to get their messages.
