It’s been years in the making, and now it’s finally happening: a Frasier sequel series has been given the green light. Paramount+ has ordered a new Frasier series, with star Kelsey Grammer to return. Grammer will not only star in the show but is an executive producer on it as well, according to Deadline.
The site reported that Grammer had been trying to revive Frasier since 2018. In February 2021, as part of the Paramount+ launch event, the network announced the show was officially in development. And now, it’s been picked up to series, and it will likely feature 10 episodes, Deadline reported.
The Paramount+ Twitter account confirmed the news, saying, “The wait is finally over! Frasier will return on Paramount Plus.”
The new Frasier show will focus on Frasier Crane’s life in a new city. Other original cast members are not expected to come back in series regular roles, though they could appear in guest starring roles.
The Frasier sequel series is written by Chris Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Joe Cristalli (Life In Pieces).
Frasier, which is a spin-off of Cheers, ran for 11 seasons and 264 episodes on NBC from 1993-2004. It won 37 Emmy Awards, which was the most at the time for a scripted series.
