When ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ will stream on Disney+

November 10, 2022

What: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Where to watch: In theaters and on Disney+

Premiere date: November 11 (theaters), Disney+ (TBA)

The most anticipated film out of the MCU’s fourth phase, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is finally here. And whether you’ve been scrambling to buy a ticket or aimlessly searching Disney+ for any information, we’ve got that and all your other big questions answered.

Is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever coming to Disney+?

Yes, yes it is — but we don’t know when yet. While the film will be out in theaters for some time, information regarding its release date on Disney+ is still unknown.

Based on past Disney and Marvel patterns, we can expect an early 2023 streaming release. For example, Thor: Love and Thunder initially premiered in theaters on July 8, with a Disney+ release two months later on September 8. Another big 2022 Marvel hit, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, released in theaters on May 5, with a Disney+ premiere date on June 22. Both films had a window of approximately 48-60 days between their respective theatrical and streaming releases, so we can expect a similar gap for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as well.

What is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever about?

In the wake of King T’Challa’s death, the remaining leaders of Wakanda are forced to unite the kingdom once more and protect it from enemies trying to occupy it as their own. When a new foe from the undersea nation of Talokan (aka Marvel’s version of Atlantis) arises, T’Challa’s friends and family are forced to confront their grief, new enemy, and the Black Panther’s succession, to protect their home.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever sees the return of Angela Bassett, Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, and Martin Freeman, with new faces including Tenoch Huerta and Michaela Coel.

What are people saying about Black Panther: Wakanda Forever so far?

Mashable’s Film Editor Kristy Puchko writes: “The death of Black Panther‘s leading man Chadwick Boseman means audiences will experience a deeper level of loss with this much-anticipated sequel. And co-writer/director Ryan Coogler does not run from it. While the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe epic boasts bold action sequences, globe-trekking adventure, and heroes and villains with fantastical superpowers, it is moored by mourning. And this might make Black Panther: Wakanda Forever the superhero movie for this moment.”

Puchko further explains: “The plot of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is eerily meta, in that it asks how you carry on when the center of your orbit is gone forever. There’s bigger, more action-packed plotting at play in this sequel. But its core throbs with the conflict between Shuri and her mother, whose grief and beliefs are in radiant contrast, and how it could determine Wakanda’s next chapter.” According to Puchko’s review, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ultimately asks, “What to we owe to those we’ve lost? Is their legacy our responsibility? Or are we responsible for our own legacies? Might their memory bolster us or blind us to what our futures could be without them?”

“With the King dead, it’s up to the women who loved and led alongside him to determine the future of Wakanda and the future of the Black Panther.” And I am so ready to see more women in that suit.
