TL;DR

  • A man purchased 300 iPhones from the Apple Store on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue.
  • The man was robbed and beaten shortly after leaving the store.
  • Close to half of the purchased phones were taken from the man.

When the sun goes down, it’s not exactly safe to be walking around with expensive items, especially in big cities like New York. A man, unfortunately, learned that the hard way after having $95,000 worth of iPhones taken from him.

According to Audacity, the New York Police Department reported a robbery that happened early in the morning. The robbery appears to have involved a 27-year-old man who was targeted after leaving the Apple Store on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue.

Based on the report, the victim lost $95,000 worth of iPhones during the mugging. If you’re wondering why the victim had so many iPhones, it’s because he bought them to resell through his small business. Since he’s a reseller, he regularly makes large purchases from Apple.

It turns out that the victim entered the 24-hour Apple Store around 1:45 AM, where an employee placed 300 iPhone 13s into three bags. When the victim left the store to put the bags in his car, another car pulled up with two men demanding the bags.

It appears that the victim fought back, but the robbers were able to steal one of the bags before driving off into the night. The incident ended with a punch to the victim’s nose and the loss of 125 iPhones worth $95,000.

Fortunately, the victim was not seriously hurt and was able to refuse medical attention. At this moment, the police have not released a description of the suspect or the vehicle, but the investigation is still ongoing.

The victim likely went to the store during the early morning to avoid being seen carrying so many expensive items to avoid a situation just like this. But it just goes to show that you can’t let your guard down even if it seems like there’s no one around.
