Tomb Raider TV Series Coming To Amazon From Phoebe Waller-Bridge

Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny) is reportedly developing a TV series based on the Tomb Raider video games. The Hollywood Reporter was first to report.

According to unnamed sources, Waller-Bridge will write the scripts for the series, with no plans for her to star in the TV adaptation. She will executive produce the series alongside Amazon’s former head of comedy and drama, Ryan Andolina, plus former head of overall deals Amanda Greenblatt. No official comment or detailshave been issued yet.

Tomb Raider is the latest project for Waller-Bridge with Amazon under her overall deal with the streaming platform. She is also developing and writing an adaptation of the Claudia Lux novel Sign Here, which is a “darkly humorous, surprisingly poignant, and utterly gripping debut novel about a guy who works in Hell (literally) and is on the cusp of a big promotion.”

Previously, it was announced that Waller-Bridge had another series in the works for Amazon that could be a drama, comedy, or a dramedy. The Hollywood Reporter’s unnamed source indicates that Tomb Raider is not that project, but it’s also not known whether this other show is still in the production pipeline–it was intended to begin filming last year.

Netflix has an upcoming anime series based on the Tomb Raider world. It will follow Lara Croft’s adventures after the events of the Crystal Dynamics reboot trilogy. It’s written by Tasha Huo and features the voice acting of Allen Maldonado (Heels, The Last OG) as Zip and Hayley Atwell (Peggy from the Captain America movies) as Lara Croft. In 2018, Alicia Vikander starred in a self-titled Tomb Raider movie adaptation.

Waller-Bridge will appear in Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny as the whip-cracking adventurer’s Indy’s goddaughter Helena. The first full trailer for the movie was released in December. The movie will be in theaters starting June 30, 2023.
