The John Wick series is known for its incredible action and set pieces, and it sounds like the upcoming fourth installment will go big in this department as well. Keanu Reeves, who plays the title character, said in a new interview that the fourth chapter has “the most action of any of the [John Wick] films” to date.
“And it’s more by a good margin. It’s a big show,” Reeves told Total Film.
He went on to say that Chapter 4 was the “hardest psychical role” of his career. “They really trained me up to be able to have what we call the toolbox,” Reeves said.
We’ve already seen behind-the-scenes footage of Reeves doing gun training, but for the fourth movie, Reeves took on another discipline: stunt driving.
“We took the car-driving to the next level, which I really enjoy,” Reeves said. “There’s 180s, forward-into-reverse 180s, reverse into-forward 270s, drifting… So it was really fun to get a chance to learn those skills, and to play.”
John Wick: Chapter 4 also introduces action movie star Donnie Yen as the antagonist Caine, and Yen brings “master level fighting abilities” to all of his movies, according to stunt coordinator Scott Rogers. Reeves summed up John Wick: Chapter 4 as an “opus” of a film that is “crazy” and “banana cakes.”
John Wick: Chapter 4 releases on March 24. In addition to Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Lance Reddick, and Ian McShane reprise their characters, with Bill Skarsgard joining the cast as a villain. Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Scott Adkins, and Rina Sawayama also star in the action movie.
A spinoff titled Ballerina starring Ana de Armas is in production as well, along with a TV series called The Continental.
Outside of film and TV, Lionsgate’s CEO has said the company has been fielding proposals for a new AAA John Wick video game, but it’s too early to discuss specifics.
