AI-generated videos may be the next big thing as Microsoft confirms GPT-4 reveal

Since ChatGPT‘s launch back in 2022, we’ve seen it implemented in a variety of places and spur the development of other large language models (LLM). Now it looks like we could be in store for a new more powerful version of OpenAI’s AI technology. Microsoft has confirmed that GPT-4 will arrive next week and it could open up “completely different possibilities.”

While attending an event called AI in Focus — Digital Kickoff, Chief Technology Officer at Microsoft Germany, Andreas Braun, spoke about GPT-4 and its upcoming unveiling (via Heise). According to Braun, the next iteration of GPT will be shown off next week and it will allow users to create new types of AI-generated content.

We will introduce GPT-4 next week, where we have multimodal models that will offer completely different possibilities – for example, videos.

The current version of ChatGPT uses GPT-3.5 and is limited to text-based answers. That limitation will be gone in the next iteration. GPT-4 is said to be a major update where the multimodal models will provide a significant boost in power. As mentioned earlier, this extra power will allow for things like AI-generated videos and other content.

Microsoft and OpenAI have formed a close partnership to work jointly on improving AI capabilities. This has allowed Microsoft to debut a new version of Bing and the Edge browser powered by ChatGPT. However, the AI that Microsoft uses is proprietary tech called Prometheus. Given that Braun spoke about OpenAI’s incoming update is a testament to how close the two companies have become.
