A lot of people tend to forget Atari with the this topic.
Atari passed up an opportunity to distribute the Nintendo Entertainment System in the US, leaving Nintendo to market and distribute the NES on its own. Just like with many of the examples in this article, this was for the best; while the NES would have come to North America a couple of years earlier, it’s likely that Atari’s mismanagement would’ve simply dragged Nintendo down with them, dooming the entire video game industry to a Japan-only niche.
