Murgado Automotive Group of Miami has expanded again in the Chicago area, about three months after acquiring two dealerships in the region.
The group’s CEO, Mario Murgado, on Friday purchased two dealerships from Paul Tamraz, founder, and Mick Austin, CEO, of Motor Werks Auto Group in Barrington, Ill., a Murgado spokesman confirmed to Automotive News.
The deal adds a Cadillac dealership, plus a store selling the Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche, Infiniti and Honda brands, all in separate showrooms under one roof. Both stores are in Barrington, northwest of Chicago.
“Motor Werks was the first Cadillac dealership that I ever visited as a boy with my father in 1975, so I am deeply familiar with the brand and its legacy,” Mario Murgado said in a statement.
The group plans to relocate the Cadillac dealership to the 40-acre campus that houses the five other brands, according to the spokesman.
Motor Werks Auto was founded in 1971.
“They built a beautiful family business and have set a high bar, but we are up to the challenge,” Murgado said in a statement.
The dealership names will stay the same and no major staffing changes are planned, according to Murgado Automotive.
Murgado on Dec. 5 also purchased a Honda dealership in Libertyville, Ill., and an Acura store in Highland Park, Ill., both in metro Chicago.
The group in 2017 purchased a Honda-Volkswagen dealership in Chicago. Murgado also owns dealerships in Florida and New Jersey.
Murgado Automotive ranks No. 103 on Automotive News’ most recent list of the top 150 dealership groups based in the U.S., retailing 9,943 new vehicles in 2021.
