Apple‘s Worldwide Developer’s Conference (WWDC) is officially slated to kick off on June 5.

On Wednesday, the tech giant confirmed(Opens in a new tab) that WWDC23 will be held from June 5 to June 9. Like several other Apple events in the recent past, this one will be online. Alongside the event, Apple also announced a “special all-day experience(Opens in a new tab)” for developers and winners of the Swift Student Challenge. The special event will be in-person at Apple Park; attendees will watch videos of the keynote (when all the products are announced) and State of the Union.

Apple’s iOS 17 may include some crowd-pleasing features

WWDC is Apple’s annual showcase for announcing major software updates for iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches. This year, it’s expected to include announcements about iOS 17 and iPad OS 17, macOS 14, and watchOS 10. But the most anticipated announcement is a rumored mixed-reality headset, reportedly called Reality Pro. Rumors about Apple’s XR headset have been building for some time. The secretive project has reportedly been delayed several times due to technical and supply chain constraints. But Apple insiders like Ming-Chi Kuo(Opens in a new tab) and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman believe that WWDC23 might finally be the moment Apple’s XR headset takes center stage.

Reality Pro is rumored to be a high-end device, costing upwards of $3,000, with over 10 cameras, an M2 chip, and advanced hand and eye-tracking for performing tasks without handsets. At WWDC23, Apple will likely present the headset’s operating system, reportedly called xrOS.

The potential for Apple to unveil Reality Pro makes this year’s WWDC one of the most hyped in recent memory. But we’ve been burned before by underwhelming events that Craig Federighi and his tracksuits carried on his back. Whatever happens, mark your calendars.
