Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King’s 20th Anniversary Re-Release Adds Even More Dates

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is returning to theaters this week to celebrate the fantasy film’s 20th anniversary, and its re-release period has now been extended.

The movie was originally set to come back on April 13 and April 19, but due to strong demand, six more dates have been added to the calendar. The movie will now play April 13-20 in the US. It’s also been confirmed that series star Elijah Wood, who played Frodo, will appear in a video message before the screenings to discuss the “lasting impact” of the films (via Collider).

What’s more, the re-release will include “exclusive coverage” of the new Lord of the Rings tabletop game featuring a “celebrity panel” helping to raise awareness for the Extra Life For Kids charity. This is being done in partnership with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

The movie itself is the 260-minute Extended Edition, which is surely good news for fans. You can learn more and order tickets right now through Regal, Cinemark, and Fathom Events.

All three The Lord of the Rings movies came back to theaters in 2021 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the series and their 4K remastering.

Return of the King swept the Oscars, winning 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director for Peter Jackson, among other accolades. Jackson followed up those films with a Hobbit trilogy, and while it was not as adored critically, the three movies earned billions at the box office.

As such, it’s not a big surprise that Warner Bros. Discovery just recently announced plans for additional The Lord of the Rings movies. It’s still early days, but for now, you can check out GameSpot’s breakdown of everything we know about the new Lord of the Rings movies.
