Chevrolet‘s first electric pickup will have a longer range when it launches this year than previously estimated.
The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV work truck, intended for fleet customers, will have an EPA-estimated 450 miles of range on a full charge, according to Rory Harvey, General Motors‘ incoming president of North America. That exceeds GM’s earlier estimate of 400 miles. The truck will start at $79,800 including shipping.
“We think that is a real winning proposition,” Harvey told reporters Thursday. “We previously announced that it was going to be a 400-mile target, so the team did just an exceptional job in terms of being able to extend that up to 450 miles.”
The work truck version of the electric full-size pickup is set to launch this spring. A work truck with a GM-estimated 350 miles of range and a starting price of $74,800 will follow, as will other versions of the work truck line starting as low as $41,595 including shipping, Chevy said.
The fully loaded RST First Edition for retail buyers is scheduled to arrive this fall, with a GM-estimated 400 miles of range and a price of $106,695. Other retail trims such as Trail Boss also are planned.
“With respect to the work truck, which is predominantly a fleet vehicle, we believe that that’ll give us a competitive advantage in terms of those fleet customers,” Harvey said. “It’s one of those that is optionality based upon customer need. And I think the key there is that we will be able to provide customer choice moving forward.”
Harvey, currently vice president of global Cadillac, will succeed Steve Carlisle as president of North America on June 1, when Carlisle retires. John Roth, currently global vice president of Customer Care and Aftersales, will take over Harvey’s role at Cadillac.
GM’s continued transition toward electric vehicles will be a critical area of focus for company leaders this year. In addition to the Silverado EV, Chevy is launching electric versions of the Blazer and Equinox crossovers this year, while GMC is preparing to bring its Sierra EV full-size pickup to market next year, and Cadillac will start production of its hand-built Celestiq electric sedan in December.
