With the Vita being a failure, what makes anybody think a successor would fair any better?
There’s isn’t any market for dedicated handhelds anymore. 3DS was Nintendo’s least successful handheld as was Vita with Sony. Neither has a reason to return to that type of hardware
PSP and Vita’s main selling points weree playing console level games on the go along with being multimedia devices. For the latter our mobile devices offer way more than anything another PlayStation handheld could offer, and the former is offered by Switch, Steam Deck and various other hybrid systems.
Low end devs will go for the mobile market. High end developers will go for consoles. First party devs aren’t going to split their resources to make system seller games for it, and third party devs would rather support more successful systems
