‘Mortal Kombat 1’ is out this September — here’s where to pre-order

2023 has already been an exciting time for fighting game fans thanks to the release of Street Fighter 6(opens in a new tab) and the announcement of Tekken 8(opens in a new tab). Now, players will have another fighting title to look forward to in the form of Mortal Kombat 1(opens in a new tab). The new entry in the iconic fighting game franchise is set to release on Sept. 19 and will serve as a series reset, complete with a new campaign set in an alternate timeline, different versions of classic characters, the addition of “Kameo Fighters,” and much more.

As of June 8, the game is now available to pre-order, which was announced at the annual Summer Game Fest(opens in a new tab) event along with a new, exciting trailer(opens in a new tab). Following the announcement, developer NetherRealm Studios released information regarding available editions of the game, as well as their respective perks. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Standard Edition ($69.99): This is the base version of the game, and includes access to the pre-order beta (Xbox and PlayStation only), as well as Shang Tsung as a playable character.

  • Premium Edition ($109.99): This version of the game includes all the bonuses from the standard edition, plus six additional playable characters, five more “Kameo Fighters,” early access to forthcoming DLC characters, a Jean-Claude Van Damme costume for Johnny Cage, and some in-game currency for you to use when you boot the game up.

  • Kollector’s Edition ($249.99): Finally, the “Kollector’s Edition,” of the game includes all the perks of the other versions, even more in-game currency, an exclusive Liu Kang sculpture, some Mortal Kombat 1 art prints, a steelbook case for the game, and an in-game color variant for Liu Kang inspired by the included sculpture. (This edition will only be available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.)

After you decide which edition you want, you can snag your copy at any of the below retailers for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Note: As of the time of this writing, the Kollector’s Edition of the game can only be purchased at GameStop and Target):
