However, today we’ve learned that Google is not going that route with its first foldable (via 9to5Google). You heard that right: a Google Pixel Fold repair will not need a professional service team. As with a regular Pixel, an iPhone, or a Galaxy device that doesn’t fold, you can fix the Pixel Fold yourself using official tools and spare parts sourced from the manufacturer. In this case, Google’s trusted partner iFixit will be the destination for getting started with a Pixel Fold repair.
This news makes the Pixel Fold the first foldable phone with official self-repair support.
Of course, Google will still nudge you towards going to a pro. The company will offer walk-in and mail-in repair services and encourage you to use those instead of going the DIY route. For those who dare, though, iFixit will provide a full suite of tools, guides, and genuine parts for fixing the Pixel Fold yourself. And yes, that will include parts related to the delicate internal folding display.
As with other Pixels, performing a Google Pixel Fold repair yourself will require you to live in an area where Pixels are sold, which includes the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, and select European countries.
