Rosario Dawson Says Ahsoka Is Inspired By Gandalf In Star Wars Show

Rosario Dawson plays Ahsoka in the upcoming Disney+ TV series, and she’s now shared a little more on how the character will be depicted in the live-action show.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Dawson said she and Star Wars producer Dave Filoni have discussed how Ahsoka’s journey is similar to Gandalf’s from The Lord of the Rings.

“In the animation, you saw her go to the white, but what I loved is the idea that there was even another level to her,” Dawson said. “Dave and I talked a lot about Gandalf the Gray and Gandalf the White–talking about that transition and how she’s someone very capable and excellent and looked up to as a leader, but she still has levels of development to go.”

In The Lord of the Rings, Gandalf begins his journey as Gandalf the Grey before becoming Gandalf the White and experiencing the next phase of his existence.

The Ahsoka TV series also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, with Natasha Liu Bordizzo portraying Sabine Wren. Ray Stevenson, who passed away earlier this year, appears in the series, too. The TV show will debut August 23 on Disney Plus.

Beyond the Ahsoka solo series, a number of other big announcements were made at Star Wars Celebration recently. Daisy Ridley will return to the series in a new Star Wars film that is set 15 years after the Rise of Skywalker and follows her efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order. Lucasfilm also announced films from Filoni and James Mangold.

Other upcoming Star Wars content includes Andor season 2, which is aiming for an August 2024 debut, and Star Wars: The Acolyte, a Disney Plus series during the final days of the High Republic era, has been described as “Frozen meets Kill Bill.”
