EA Will Shut Down Online Servers For These 12 Games By The End Of The Year

As it does periodically, Electronic Arts is shutting down the online servers for a number of older, less-played titles by the end of the year. As spotted by PureXbox, EA is shutting down online servers for at least 12 games in the coming months, including Battlefield Bad Company 2, Dead Space 2, Crysis 3, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14, among others.

Crysis 3, Dante’s Inferno, Dead Space 2, and Battlefield 1943, among others, are available through Xbox backwards compatibility, so anyone enjoying those games on a newer Xbox don’t have much longer to make use of their online elements.

EA says the decision to “retire” older games is never easy, but these decisions are necessary so EA can dedicate time and resources to newer, more actively played titles.

“As games are replaced with newer titles, the number of players still enjoying the games that have been live for some time dwindles to a level–typically fewer than 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles–where it’s no longer feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping the online services for these games up and running,” EA said.
