After a battery of positive lead tests performed by Stanley cup owners has hit social media, competitors like Hydro Flask have taken aim at the popular brand, assuring customers that their alternative cups are lead-free, and always have been.
Meanwhile, Stanley has confirmed in a statement that its cups do contain lead, but not at dangerous enough levels for customers to be concerned. The only risk, the company claims, is if buyers are somehow exposed to the “sealing dot” at the bottom of the cup.
You’ll have to make your own decisions on whether you should ditch the Stanley based on social media’s test results and what the experts have to say. But if you want to be absolutely sure you won’t be exposed to lead regularly, you might think about grabbing an alternative.
