Star Citizen is such a fascinating case study of a game. For what it’s worth, you ARE getting content. Quite a bit of it, and the attention to detail is staggering.
… On the other hand, yeah, totally fair to ask, “when is this game coming out?” I forget who mentioned (Abriael? Don’t quote me) but the single player is… Pretty much complete, I guess? At the end of the day, people are allowed to back this product because they believe in it. Personally, I’m not giving a penny and find their monetization scheme to be gross. I’ve bought cars for use in real life for less than what they’re asking for ships. It’s egregious and frankly predatory because there will be people who would clean out their bank accounts for virtual prestige, and CIG knows that.
Where I think it gets scummy is if they’re just going to “finish” the game when the funding dries up. If they’ve led people to believe the game will definitively release without an official release planned, that’s dirty.
I don’t know that much about the game, but yeah. There needs to be a clearly defined plan for the game (assuming there isn’t one already that the donors are aware of—can anyone verify?).
