TECNO unveils Camon 30 Premier, debuts first in-house imaging tech

February 27, 2024

TL;DR

  • TECNO announced it will launch the Camon 30 Premier in Q2 2024.
  • The Camon 30 Premier will feature the company’s first-ever in-house imaging system called the TECNO PolarAce.
  • The firm claims this imaging system allows for industry-first 4K/30fps full-scene AI-NR HDR video capture.

It’s MWC 2024, and there have been plenty of exciting announcements, including TECNO’s next Android phone — the Camon 30 Premier. The company’s upcoming phone will feature its first-ever self-developed pre-imaging signal processor (ISP) chip.

The next iteration in the Camon series sports a refreshed design compared to its predecessor. While the firm avoided giving out all the details, the Camon 30 Premier looks to make a few big improvements upon last year’s release.

TECNO appears to be going all-in on photos and videos this time around. The company announced it is launching its self-developed TECNO PolarAce imaging system today, and the first device to get it will be the Camon 30 Premier.

This new imaging system uses Sony’s CXD5622GG chip and features end-side FP16 floating-point computing, which TECNO claims is an industry first. The PolarAce also makes use of Sony’s Lytia components, TECNO’s universal multi-skin tone technology, and TECNO’s AI imaging technologies. You can see some examples of what this new camera technology is capable of down below.

In addition, the imaging system boasts four engines to “restore true color and deliver all the details in extreme scenarios.” Such scenarios would include things like recording video at night, maintaining smoothness during long video recordings, and recording full-scene HDR. TECNO claims its ISP is capable of producing an industry-first 4K/30fps full-scene AI-NR HDR video.

The second improvement will be the handset’s performance. It will still house a MediaTek chip, but it will be upgraded from the MediaTek 8050 to the 8200.

Lastly, the display features a 1.5K LTPO screen that’s said to provide an “almost 2K” experience while consuming less power than a similar 1080p panel. But the biggest improvement here is the 1,400 nits of peak brightness. Last year’s model only offered a measly 493 nits, which went up to 684 nits with the automatic brightness boost.

The Camon 30 Premier is expected to launch in the second quarter of 2024. At the moment, there is no information on the price or availability.
