How to change your shipping address

June 30, 2024

Ordering online makes shopping easy, but entering shipping information can get tricky. You might have changed your location or have multiple addresses saved to your account. It’s easy to accidentally send a package to an old address or the wrong family member; in fact, a woman had over 80 packages ($4000 worth) sent to her by mistake. But, with a few simple steps, you can update the shipping address and redirect packages to the correct destination.

Our guide discusses changing your address for an Amazon delivery, such as a brand-new Amazon TV scheduled for delivery. We also cover how to manage your list of addresses, showing how to remove them from your account so you don’t accidentally re-use outdated information. If you want to learn more, check out our guide.

How to change your shipping address on Amazon

You can change the shipping address of your Amazon order at any time as long as Amazon is the one delivering the package and it hasn’t entered the shipping process. So, if you choose same-day shipping, your window for changing the shipping address is small.

Note that for faster delivery options like same-day shipping, it’s important to double-check the address before placing the order, as the window to change it is very small. You’ll have more time to act if you choose two-day or no-rush shipping.

  2. Find the order you want to modify.
  3. Click View or edit order or View order details.

Make sure the delivery details look correct. Then, proceed through the rest of the checkout. As long as the order hasn’t been placed, you can update the shipping address as often as needed.

If you need to change the destination for your Amazon delivery after it has begun the shipping process, your only recourse is to cancel your order and place it again.

How to change your payment method and other order details

Changing your shipping address is a useful feature, but until your order ships, there are other aspects of your purchase that you can update if you need to. Maybe you ordered a gift on the wrong card and don’t want your partner to see the details. If that’s the case, changing your payment method is a quick and easy process.

From here, the process to manage your addresses is the same as it is on the Amazon website. While you’re here, select a default address. That way, there’s less chance of sending a package to the wrong place.

Use an Amazon Hub Locker instead

If you receive a package you meant to send somewhere else, consider using Amazon Hub. You can return your order to one of the hundreds of locker and counter locations, then use your Amazon Prime delivery benefits to send it to the correct destination.
