House Of The Dragon’s Latest Game of Thrones Easter Eggs Are Literal Eggs

It’s not uncommon for House of the Dragon to feature a few callbacks and Easter eggs from Game of Thrones. But it is unusual when the Easter eggs are literally eggs as they were in House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 3. In this case, House of the Dragon has settled some of the lore about where three eggs in particular came from before they hatched in the original series.

Warning: the following contains spoilers from House of the Dragon Season 2 episode 3. If you haven’t seen the episode or don’t want to know what’s in it, stop reading now.

In the episode, young Rhaena Targaryen (Phoebe Campbell) is tasked by her step-mother, Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), to escort the queen’s youngest children to the Vale before depositing four dragon eggs in Pentos to keep them safe. Three of the eggs were colored gold, black, and green, which were the same colors as the eggs that Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) received as a wedding gift in Game of Thrones Season 1. Those eggs eventually hatched and became the mighty dragons that helped Daenerys briefly seize the Iron Throne.

Geeta Vasant Pate, the director of the episode, confirmed that the three eggs in question were exactly what they appeared to be.

“Those are Daenerys’ eggs,” Patel told Mashable. “All of us who work on this show are big Game of Thrones fans, so it was very exciting to shoot that scene.”

While this settles the origin of those eggs, there is still the question about what happened to the fourth egg that Rhaena was meant to deliver. It’s possible that it could be the egg that hatches into a dragon that she can ride. But for now, that’s just speculation.

House of the Dragon Season 2 will continue on July 7 on HBO and Max.
