How to reset a Firestick remote

July 5, 2024

Although most households have cable TV, many prefer streaming devices like the Amazon Fire TV to air on-demand TV shows, movies, and live TV channels at their fingertips. The e-commerce giant offers a range of devices at multiple price points. All Fire TV devices come with a Bluetooth-powered remote to navigate the Fire OS. Still, the Fire TV remote isn’t void of issues. If the Fire TV remote frequently disconnects from the streaming device, resetting it is a good idea.

Amazon offers feature-rich Fire TV apps on iOS and Android for use with a digital remote. However, it isn’t convenient and doesn’t offer as satisfying an experience as a physical unit. A digital remote is good for a temporary workaround only. Resetting a Fire TV remote is an easy solution to start fresh.

Reset an Alexa Voice remote (1st Gen)

Resetting an Alexa Voice (1st Gen) requires the same steps. The only difference is that you’ll hold fewer buttons.

Troubleshoot your Amazon FireStick remote

Try these basic tricks if the factory reset steps above don’t solve the issues with the Fire TV remote.

  • Replace the Fire TV remote batteries with new batteries.
  • Unplug the Fire TV Stick from the HDMI port, and remove the smart TV from power sources. Wait for some time and plug them in.
  • Look for hardware damage on your Fire TV. Your remote stops if there is major wear and tear. You need a new replacement remote.
  • Contact Amazon’s customer service if your device is under warranty.
  • Get a case if you have a sketchy history with managing your Fire TV Stick remote.
  • Ensure a clear path between your Fire TV remote and TV. Then, they can connect without issues.

Use a digital Fire TV Stick 4K remote

  1. Download the Fire TV mobile app from the App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Open the Fire TV app and give it the necessary local network permission to find nearby devices on the same network.
