How To Change Your Minecraft Skin

July 27, 2024

By default, you’re given a basic skin for your character in Minecraft. While you can easily go through an entire save with the “Steve” skin equipped, you might be looking to add some flair to your character. Below, you can see how to change your Minecraft skin and where to download new ones to equip.

Changing your Minecraft Skin

The process of swapping your skin in Minecraft works almost the same as changing your username, which we also covered in a previous guide. However, the process works differently between Java and Bedrock Editions. We’ll list the methods to change your skin in both editions below.

Java Edition

  1. Head to the official Minecraft website
  2. Log into your Microsoft account by hitting the “Login” button in the top-right
  3. After you’re logged in, click the “Account” button in the top-right
  4. Go to “Profile” and then find the “Minecraft: Java Edition” box
  5. In that box, you’ll see “Change Skin” highlighted
  6. Click that and you can either select a default model or upload the file for a custom skin

Bedrock Edition

  • Open the Minecraft application
  • Go to the main menu and select the “Dressing Room” option
  • Choose from any of the existing skins

And it’s that simple to swap your skins out in either edition of Minecraft. If you’re playing on Java Edition, though, you’ll need to take an extra step, which involves downloading the file for a created skin, a process that can be a bit complicated. Fortunately, there are dozens of sites out there that have thousands of pre-made Minecraft skins for you to download.

It’s recommended to vet these sites thoroughly, though, as you don’t want to download anything from an untrustworthy source. Once you find a site and skin you like, though, you can download its file and upload it to the Minecraft website. After it’s been uploaded, your character will be wearing that skin the next time you log into Minecraft with that same account.

There are limitless options when it comes to either choosing or creating a Minecraft skin, so feel free to change up your look whenever the mood strikes.
