George RR Martin Plans To Discuss “Everything” Wrong With House Of The Dragon

After Game of Thrones came to an end, author George R.R. Martin co-created the prequel spin-off series, House of the Dragon, with showrunner Ryan Condal. And while Martin has been very complimentary about the show in the past, he apparently has some issues with it that he wants to address… just not right now.

In a new post on his official site, Martin writes, “This has not been a good year for anyone… I have had a pretty wretched year as well, one full of stress, anger, conflict, and defeat… I do not look forward to other posts I need to write, about everything that’s gone wrong with House of the Dragon… but I need to do that too, and I will. Not today, though. Today is Zozobra’s day, when we turn away from gloom.”

The festival that Martin is referring to is an annual event in Santa Fe, New Mexico that is about banishing darkness and grief by burning an effigy of Zozobra. It’s not as easy to pin down the issues that Martin apparently has with his show. As recently as the fourth episode of Season 2, Martin praised House of the Dragon’s dragon battle as one of the best ever put to film.

As for House of the Dragon itself, HBO has already renewed the series for a third season. Additionally, Condal has revealed that House of the Dragon will likely come to an end after Season 4, rather than the initial five-year plan that was discussed for the series. The third season will likely premiere in 2026.
