The interactive novel series technically started already, as Scholastic released a free ebook titled VIP on August 3. VIP serves as “No. 0” in the series, so you can give it a read before you decide if the new Choose Your Own Adventure-style storytelling format is for you.

Releasing on September 3 and priced at $9.74 (was $13), Five Nights at Freddy’s: The Week Before takes place before the events of the very first Five Nights at Freddy’s game. As the security guard of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, you have several nights in which to survive against Freddy, Chica, Bonnie, and Foxy, and there are over 25 different endings in this book. You can even choose to read with a higher difficulty setting, for a unique experience where every turn of the page could be your last.

The next interactive novel, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Return to the Pit, will be available starting December 24 and puts you in the shoes of Oswald. After using the ball pit at Jeff’s Pizza to travel back in time to 1985, you’ve accidentally brought a sadistic animatronic menace back into the present, and you’ll need to find a way to escape its murderous clutches. This book also has 25 different endings and two difficulty settings, if you’re up for the challenge.

Return to the Pit is a retelling of the first book in the Fazbear Frights series. It will also be familiar to those who played Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit, the recently released retro-infused adventure game developed by Mega Cat Studios.
