“How long do you think games take to make?”

TOO LONG I say. A game should not take more than 4 years to develop completely considering a console Gen lasts for around 6 years. Just compare the current development times to past generations.

During the 5-year PS1 gen, we got 3 fully featured numbered Final Fantasy games, 3 Spyro games, 3 Crash Bandicoot games, 3 mainline Resident Evil games, 2 Dino Crisis games, 3 Gran Turismo games, 5 Tomb Raider games, and many others.

During the 6 year PS2 generation, we got 3 Final Fantasy games, 3 Shadow Hearts games, 2 mainline Resident Evil Games, 3 Monster Hunter games, 2 God of War games, 2 Kingdom Hearts games, 5 Silent Hill games, 3 GTA games, and many more.

Even during the PS3 gen when graphics and games had become much more complex, we got 2 Elder Scrolls, 2 GTA games, 2 Resident Evil games, 4 Bioshock games, several Assasin’s Creed games, 2 Gran Turismo games, 3 Mass Effect games, 2 God of War games, 2 Dragon Age games, 3 Dead Space games, 3 Uncharted games, 3 Resistance games, 2 Killzone games, 2 Fallout games, 2 Witcher games, and numerous others.

The PS4 gen was when things began to go downhill. Developers began starting and scrapping games left and right and games could even get out of preproduction for years. Console gens last around 6 years and these guys are taking 5 to 10 years to finish a single game. This means that each development team only releases 1 game during a whole generation! What are they doing for 6 to 7 years??
