A24’s ‘Y2K’ trailer is the ’90s internet remix of our nightmares

There was a time when Y2K was apparently about to bite us, a conspiracy theory proven right in A24‘s latest — a wild comedy about a vicious millennium bug terrorising a New Year’s Eve party in the ’90s.

Directed by Saturday Night Live‘s Kyle Mooney and written by Mooney and Evan Winter, Y2K sees high school besties Danny (Hunt for the Wilderpeople‘s Julian Dennison) and Eli (It‘s Jaeden Martell) crashing a house party on the all-important final night of 1999. Eli’s crush Laura (West Side Story star Rachel Zegler) just happens to be here too. But as the clock hits midnight, every last bit of technology in the house goes haywire, as those lofty predictions foresaw.

In her review, Mashable’s entertainment editor Kristy Puchko called the film “a solid stoner comedy, gleefully dumb and unapologetically wacky.”

It’s the second look we’ve had at the film following the first murderous, Chumbawumba-scored trailer. But this trailer in particular is like the ’90s internet remix of our nightmares.

Y2k hits cinemas Dec. 6.
