Writer/director Dean DeBlois was the visionary who brought Cressida Cowell’s New York Times bestselling book series to life with the winsome and awe-striking How to Train Your Dragon movies. Now he’s back, delivering a remake that blends live-action performances and top-notch CGI to give the adventures of the Viking boy Hiccup and his dragon bestie Toothless a fresh spin.

From this first look, DeBlois is committed to recapturing the magic of the 2010 animated hit, re-creating the central duo’s fateful first moment of friendship nearly shot for shot. Featured in this teaser, Mason Thames (The Black Phone) will take on the role of Hiccup, while Gerard Butler will reprise his role as Hiccup’s dad, Chief Stoick the Vast.

Also aboard this high-flying film are Nico Parker, Nick Frost, Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Ruth Codd, Peter Serafinowicz, and Murray McArthur.

How to Train Your Dragon will open only in theaters June 13, with the option to see it in IMAX.
