Super Mario RPG is on sale for only $30 at Best Buy, but this deal is scheduled to end tonight, December 6, at 10 PM PT. It’s actually the third time this week Best Buy has dropped the price of the 2023 Switch remake of Mario’s first role-playing adventure. Earlier this week, Best Buy had it for $38, and then yesterday the price dropped to $33 alongside a handful of other steeply discounted Switch games.

Best Buy’s Nintendo Switch Game Deals
Incredibly faithful to the beloved original, Super Mario RPG is a charming Switch game enhanced with several quality-of-life changes that make it more approachable to newcomers. Mario RPG veterans will appreciate the series of post-game fights that really test your prowess.
Beyond those additions and tweaks, Super Mario RPG on Switch plays very similarly as the iconic original on Super Nintendo. The excellent turn-based combat still feels great today, the characters and writing are heartfelt and humorous, and the world design still has that classic Nintendo charm.
GameSpot’s Super Mario RPG review found the modernized version of the SNES classic to be a delight. “Super Mario RPG is one of the wildest games in Nintendo’s catalog. Loaded with eccentric characters like a Santa-esque big bad, random bouts of dark comedy–Toad cosplayers tickle as a form of torture and a four-eyed dog swallows you whole and comments on the taste–and moment-to-moment gameplay that is as raucous as it is eclectic, Super Mario RPG memorably capped off the SNES lifecycle. Fittingly, the new Switch version is one of the weirdest remasters I’ve ever played. Its surface-level appearance as a modern Mario game is merely a facade. Relentlessly faithful to the original, Super Mario RPG is a bold and largely successful experiment.”
Though Super Mario RPG for Switch is only a year old, Nintendo has released two Mario RPGs since its launch. An enhanced edition of the GameCube classic Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door released in May. Also exceedingly faithful to the original release, the Switch remaster earned a 9/10 in our Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door review.
In November, Nintendo revived the Mario & Luigi RPG series with Mario & Luigi: Brothership, which earned a 6/10 in our review. While we praised the art style and story, performance issues, repetitive combat, and pacing issues make Brothership an uneven, albeit fun, adventure that’s perhaps a bit too long for its own good.
Both of those Mario RPGs as well as Paper Mario: The Origami King are on sale at Amazon and Woot, so you can save on all four Mario role-playing (physical) releases at the moment.
Nintendo Switch Mario RPG Deals
Those are just a small sample of the Super Mario games on sale right now. Amazon-owned retailer Woot has many Super Mario platformers and party games discounted right now, including the recently released Super Mario Party Jamboree. Games starring other characters from the Mushroom Kingdom, including Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, are on sale, too. You can also save on a wide variety of Pokemon, Kirby, and Zelda games as well as rarely discounted (or even in stock) games like Bayonetta and Dragon Quest 1-3 collection.
